Bunny Supplies

Taking care of your bunny means making sure you have the proper
supplies and getting organized!
Below you will find a list and links to all of my preferred bunny supplies. You will also find a list of things that I DO NOT recommend buying.

CAGE

You should clean up any poo and wipe the cage floor with a washcloth or paper towel and water/vinegar mix at least once a day. Once a month, (maybe even once a week if your bun is sloppy), you should give the cage a good spraying off and clean any crevasses with a wire brush and a 10:1 water/vinegar mix.
My 3 Favorite Cages:

These are what I use. Love them! Easy to clean and plenty of room!

Midwest Homes Ferret Cage
Pro's: It can operate as one cage, or can be divided if necessary. Both doors open wide for easy cleaning. Trays are easily removed. On wheels. Storage shelf. Adjustable lounging shelf. Great for rabbits that will spend more time in their cage than roaming the house freely.
Con's: The ladders are a bit awkward for rabbits. I don't use them in mine. The trays are a grooved, molded plastic-this makes anything mushy a bit more difficult to scrub off.  The first story is fairly high off of the ground-this makes it difficult to let your bun come and go freely.

Living World Deluxe Habitat Large
Pro's: Top opens up for easy access. Side sliding door for easy coming and going. Light weight. Great for buns who will spend most of their time outside of their cage. Flat bottom allows for placement on top of table or shelf.
Con's: Doesn't have wheels. Only 1 story. Requires a bit of disassembly to deep clean. Not enough space for a bun who will spend a greater amount of time in the cage rather than out of it.

Mr. Clean Mini-Sweep Compact Dustpan And Brush Set
I use a shop vac as well, but these are great for small messes and doesn't involve getting out the vac.

Mini Stanley Wet/Dry Vacuum
Awesome to keep handy near the cage. Pick up poo stragglers, and it's super small. Love this! I use this on a daily basis in the bunny room so our babies are used to the noise.

Plastic Spray Bottles
Keep the 1:10 Vinegar/Water mix pre-made and handy. The vinegar neutralizes any urine odor.

Magnolora Heavy Duty
Wire Bristle Brushes

When "deep cleaning" the cage spray it down with  a hose and use a wire brush to clean crevasses. Rinse cage and brush, spray with vinegar/water mix, and scrub again with wire brush. Rinse cage and brush again and you're done!

LITTER BOX

Picture
Ware Corner Scatterless Litter Pan
This pan is awesome! It attaches to the side of the cage so bunny can't throw it, has a grate for no shaving scatter, and molds to the corner, (which is where bunnies love to tee tee). Easy plastic for clean out. Buy the jumbo size. Place a thin layer of wood pellets on the bottom. Your litter box should be changed once a day.

Tractor Supply Equine
Pelletized Bedding

I put a thin layer of this on the bottom of the litter pan. The pelletized bedding is awesome for absorbing urine and eliminating the smell. Also ensures there is no wet, sticky, old urine stuck to the pan. Just dump and go. Use a putty knife occasionally to scrape out any old bits.

Waterproof Bamboo
Mattress Protector

This is one of my MUST HAVES! Rabbits are the most comfortable with you when you are on their level. The best way to achieve this is to lay down with your rabbit. I'm not to keen on laying on the floor. I want to lay on the bed with bunny, but I don't want an accident, hay, or spilt water on my comforter. This is genious....order this mattress protector one size BIGGER than your mattress. Make your bed AND THEN put the mattress protector on top of that. Hang out for awhile and when you're ready to go to bed simply remove the protector, shake it out in the garden, and throw it in the wash with any soiled bunny towels.

WHAT NOT TO BUY

Picture
*Soft sided carrier- Your bunny is fragile and they need to feel safe. The movement of the walls is disturbing to most buns. They are also not protected from impact with a soft carrier.
Picture
*Front loading only carrier- You will find it difficult to get your bun in and out, and your bun will find it stressful each and every time. Loading and unloading from the top is best.
Picture
*Pine shavings- They are messy, bad for your bunny's respiratory system, and you don't need them!
